AMERICA !!!
it IS "counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike", ahahahaha of course that's what it is.
Sorry guys, but I'm definite it's counting the cars on the new Jersey turnpike, i have two official lyric books. Both say that.
Only for you Michael So many people are able to stay in PEACE
I may be wrong - but I think Paul wrote and the two of them were performing this song long BEFORE there WAS a Captain Picard. Maybe Trek (the earlier) (with Spock and Scotty and them) was around, Call me paranoid, but I have a hunch you're playing with me. Maybe, somewhere, there is a collection of Paul Simon librettos (libretti?) that would settle this.
Sorry Simon and Garfunkel, we Americans have let you down. We hope we can improve, and become the country you envision. We love you, by the way.
captain picard needs no logic he is relevant in any situatuion
I mean - if they say "Captain Picard" by what logic is the next line "and THEY've all come to look".... Not that any of this matters - it is a great tune
There's probably a lot of things wrong with me....I doubt this is one of them...
I think True Music is that kind of music that is not just commercial, that has a good lyric and not something like "Oh God is coming a big yellow duck. Now I see her in my mind. She's beautiful. Here's come the train. I usually eat sandwiches.", you know. Passional music is True Music, that's why I don't listen to house or heavy trash death whatthehell metal or something like that.
love. this. song. let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together...

I'd agree with you if you hadn't defined this genre as true music, opera and classical music used to be "true music" later it was jazz, in the 70s it was folk, now its rap and pop, our beliefs of what "true music" is have and will change throughout time. P.S you needn't damn all modern music much of it is inspired by this kind of music
no its no where near that what the hell is wrong with u
I think it's "Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike".....
This, Celtic Woman, Ralph McTell and "The First of a Million Kisses" are True Music. Anyone agree with me?
You say this to us and you neither know what this song's talking about. You feel such a clever one, don't you? Well, I think clever people should say things more clearly and don't just insult others. I really hope you don't listen to music like house or hip pop or heavy trash death dontknowwhat metal, because if it is so, you really need to get a lesson of True Music.
Many thanks!
Simple music for simple minded people. LOL. LONG LIVE IGNORANT SHEEP...
It was Mayor Ed Koch.
See mcblah's comments below. They're absolutely spot on right. S&G's words "I'm empty and aching and I don't know why" go to the young people's search for themselves that mcblah mentioned. All the political crap being read into the words of this song is just that, pure BS!
I'm pretty sure that's what he is saying. Sorry I don't know how to spell that one fellows name, I think it's Ed Coutts. Please excuse that.
Sure,"Well it's great to do a neighborhood concert! I hope everybody can hear us, I hope that the sound is good. I just want to thank the police department, and the fire department, and the parks commissioner, and (Ed Cotts)? And particularly, you know, the people that never get recognized for doing good deeds for the city, a group of people who have donated half of their proceeds that their making tonight. The guys who are selling loose joints are giving the city half of their income tonight"
Amazing song played by an amazing band in an amazing concert. As I'm Italian and I'm not able to understand what Paul Simon says at the beginning, could someone write it? Thanks in advance :D
when did this songs commentary page become a forum for political discussion...this somg is great...wether you love or hate America we all have to agree on thats why we looked it up on youtube
